National Skydiving Museum Hall of Fame Dinner and Weekend Celebration

honoring

D-1 Lew Sanborn

September 6 - 8
Skydive Chicago, Ottawa

REGISTER NOW!!!   Six more sport parachutists will be inducted into the National Skydiving Museum Hall of Fame at a ceremony at Skydive Chicago the weekend of September 6, 2013. Parachute enthusiasts from around the world will attend.

The 2013 inductees are:

Curt Curtis, NJ and FL

Jack Jefferies, CO

Kim Emmons Knor, CO
Chuck MacCrone, AL
Jackie Smith, England

Jim Wallace, CA.

The weekend celebration will keep skydivers and friends and families busy. Each year, the weekend recognizes the achievements of someone or something special in skydiving. This year, we are honoring the legendary D-1, Lew Sanborn. Throughout the weekend, a group of world-class skydivers will be building a 22-way formation in recognition of Lew to honor his retirement from the sport. Lew, 82, has made a decision to “hang up his boots” after 65 years and more than 7,500 jumps.

We expect more than 300 guests to join in the Hall of Fame reception and dinner sponsored by PIA, Saturday evening, September 7 which will include a cocktail reception, sit-down dinner and video introductions for each inductee. Museum trustee and inductee Curt Curtis will serve as emcee and our keynote speaker will add a special perspective to the evening.

Each year during the National Skydiving Museum Celebration weekend there is an exhibit giving a small taste of some of the artifacts and displays that will be in the actual museum when built. The exhibit features a theater presentation with old and new video footage highlighting the thrill of skydiving. Other displays show significant milestones, world records and skydiving champions and pioneers. The skydiving equipment display from every era of the sport is one of the highpoints and the Hall of Fame gallery honors inductees past and present.

The Pioneers’ Lounge, sponsored by Pope Valley Parachute Ranch, will be reunion headquarters where old and young can get together to enjoy jump stories and mingle with some of the pioneers and the new champions of our sport -- and maybe have a toast or two.

New for 2013! Register now for the Hall of Fame Dinner, Pioneers Lounge, BBQ and Event T shirt – $160 – that’s a $10 savings!

Fredericksburg, VA (June 27, 2012). . . Pat Moorehead, 80, of Long Beach, CA, will be awarded with the National Skydiving Museum’s Trustees Award during the museum’s fundraising weekend celebration at Skydive Arizona, Eloy, November 10, 2012. The award is being given to recognize Moorehead’s TEAM 80 event where he made 80 skydives to celebrate his 80th birthday. The event raised more than $18,000 toward the museum’s building fund.

On November 20, 2011, to celebrate his 80th birthday, Moorehead jumped out of a plane at Skydive Elsinore -- 80 times. Despite cloudy skies and rain, he set the world’s record for the most skydives by an 80-year-old in one day. Moorehead actually made 81 jumps; after he broke the record, he went up one last time to fly the American flag.
